November 2008

October 2008:

SX.272 Active Antenna Splitter now available from SevenStar. Allows an AIS Transponder to share a VHF antenna with existing VHF radio. Not to be confused with cheaper 'splitters', which are only suitable for use with AIS receivers, and generally switch too slowly to transmit the whole AIS message.

September 2008:   FCC Approval!

After around 15 months of consideration, the FCC finally passed the second order and ruling to allow the use of Class B AIS Transponders like the SeaTraceR from SevenStar in US waters. In an attempt to improve the accuracy of the static vessel data, the FCC have mandated that this data should be entered by "the vendor of the device or by an appropriately qualified person in the business of installing marine communications equipment on board vessels", rather than by the end user. A warning label must also be affixed to the unit.

December 2007:

"SevenStar Electronics (UK) launches a new product in a novel approach to the AIS market. The boating public is still largely unaware of AIS technology and the benefits it offers, so the SeaVieweRTM from SevenStar offers boat owners the chance to sample the technology at a lower entry cost with a high-specification Receive-only unit, which they can have upgraded later to a full Class B Transponder when they have seen just how good it is." .............."What a great idea!"...............

"The SeaVieweRTM from SevenStar Electronics also includes a very good 16 channel GPS receiver, which is more than capable of providing the vessel's primary position reference through the same NMEA port as the AIS data. I'm all for minimising the number of cables AND connections, as these are the most vulnerable parts of most installations."

October 2007:

"SevenStar's Class B unit looks very professional and fit for the marine environment. We particularly liked the quality of the connectors used and the versatile mounting options."

"The combined GPS/AIS antenna was easy to fit and worked well. The Coastguard was still picking me up at 21nm!"

July 2007:

"On our way back from the Balearics with the SeaTraceR fitted it was very noticeable how commercial vessels were making simple small course adjustments nice and early rather than just ploughing on regardless and expecting us to get out of the way."

March 2007 :

"SeaTraceR Class B AIS Transponder from SevenStar Electronics of the UK is awarded Approval from the US Coast Guard"

"The SeaTraceR Class B AIS unit was successfully shown to fulfil the requirements of IEC 62287-1, IEC 60945, IEC 61162 (applicable part) and IMO Resolution A.694(17)"
